Richard
Ellis, Membership Chairman
High
Tech Exec to Grape Grower and Wine Maker
During a
successful 40-year career in the high tech industry, Rich developed an
interest in good wines and then in growing the grapes to produce unique
and different wines.
Rich started on
this life changing experience in 2000 when he purchased a small piece
of land in Creston. Since then he’s ripped, planted and grown
grapes on the small plot of land discovering what he didn’t know and
learning from those experiences.
Richard Ellis
now farms over 100 acres of grapes that include the original plot in
his home vineyard to huge vines in San Miguel that are over 25 years
old - the Dancing Stallion Vineyard.
Experiences
since starting this adventure have taught him that the key to success
is in quality and that fine wine really does start in the vineyard.
Rich believes that IGGPRA provides a forum for both the experienced
grape grower and the novice, bearing great truth in the motto "Growers
helping Growers".
Mr. Ellis plans
on growing grapes for a long time to come and has dreams of creating an
award wining wine, which will be the result of the exceptional grapes
grown in Paso Robles.
